Start ’em young

For those of you with wee ones Valentines Day is always a fun time to go to the store and pick out Valentines cards for classmates and friends.  Right?  Well, it is, but the selection is usually always the same….Disney Princess, Paw Patrol, Doc McStuffins, Transformers, etc.  This year, switch it up by letting your wee one be the artist and make their own!  Taylored Expressions is offering two different Valentines card craft kits (Fruity Friends and Love Monsters) where your little can be the artist of their own cards that they hand out!  These kits include supplies to complete 24 pre-stamped cards.  Envelopes can be purchased separate, if you so desire, or the cards can be given sans envelope, as the kit comes with a to/from stamp and ink cube for the back of the card!  What better way to instill creativity in your child by purchasing one of these great sets.   Check out the Taylored Expressions website to order yours today!  Get that creativity spark going in your wee one early on!

Were you raised in a barn? Well….

One of the accent decor pieces that you see all over Pinterest these days is the sliding barn door as an interior door for your home.  The one pictured below is an example, and came from La Mode Design’s blog.

Pretty cool idea……and, in my opinion, it goes nicely with a lot of different decor themes.  Leave it to a stamp company like Stampin’ Up!, to translate this decor idea into a stamp and die set that is also an interactive slider card!  The minute I saw the cards that were created using this stamp set on Pinterest, I was in love. Check out the samples below.

I think there are so many awesome things that you can do with this stamp set.  It is just one of those sets that you can use for any season, and make special for any and every occasion.  You can order the Barn Door set (stamps AND dies!) direct from the Stampin’ Up! website, or you can order from your Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, if you have one.  You should definitely check out the blogs of the Stampin’ Up! demonstrators that I have listed above for inspiration, and also to check out their gorgeous creations. Who knows, one of them may be waiting to be your new Stampin’ Up! demonstrator!

Loving your stamps at first ink

Have you ever purchased an amazing stamp, that you had great plans for, only to have the image come out splotchy or incomplete?  To be honest, up until last year when I took a background card class, I thought I was broken, and had some curse that made me stamp incomplete images.  Oh the joy to discover that all I needed to do was condition my stamps!  It was a tip quickly passed on in the class, but one that I took to heart and that has changed the way I look at my new stamps!  Jennifer McGuire, of Jennifer McGuire Ink, shares a great tip here for using VersaMark Ink to condition your stamps.  There are also a variety of other techniques that you can use to condition your stamps.  Click here for some alternatives to stamp conditioning provided by scrapbook-advise.com by Memory Book Architects.  These include items such as using Staz-On cleaner, or even a sanding block!  You purchased that stamp because you loved the image….keep that love going by conditioning the stamp first to get the most out of it.  Always give your stamps some love!

Always stand out

As my friends know, I am not a shy person, by any stretch of the imagination.  I like to be right out in front of things, screaming my little heart out.  Maybe I’m an attention you-know-what, or maybe I just love life and want to celebrate that fact! All that is to say that maybe that is why I really like this card.  Laura Jane, of @mammacooksalot, designed the card below using stamps from The Ton.  I posted a card back in late December featuring The Ton Couture Clear Stamps.  I think they have really beautiful images, with clean lines that make a great presentation.  For the card below, Laura Jane stamped the Tulip Bouquet image in a light color ink, and then stamped and cut out the bows, which she then colored in bright shades and adhered to the card.  I think the look is amazing, and it doesn’t seem to take any time at all to create this card.  You can check out this card at either on The Ton’s blog or Laura Jane’s Instagram.  Remember, always stand out!

Re-purposing old books

As I have mentioned before, I love books.  Old, new…..reading them, decorating with them….it doesn’t matter.  I love having books around.  Below is another way to decorate with and re-purpose old books.  Turn them into a wall organizer or storage for mail or other papers that you want to keep handy.  Click here for the tutorial by Morena Hockley for this simple and easy project.  Don’t throw out those old Encyclopedia Britannica just because you Google everything! Re-purpose them!

Love comes in all colors

Valentine’s Day is less than a month away, and there is plenty of time to create some gorgeous handmade cards! Today, I wanted to just take the time to point out that just as love comes in all different colors, Valentine cards can also come in different colors, not just the standard red.  The cards below are from older pins that I had saved on my Pinterest board, Created Cards…..Hearts, so the links or websites may be dated, which is why I am just giving credit to the creator at the end of this post, and not going into more detail.  I simply wanted to spark your creativity when creating your Valentine cards, and maybe give your red inks, markers and cardstock a rest!

Teal/white card……Deb, Artful Impressions

Love you much card……Sleepy in Seattle

Pink and Brown hearts card……Andrea Walford

Winnie the Pooh…and hunny, too!

I heart Disney……and have always loved Winnie the Pooh…call me a kid at heart.  Check out these adorable flower pots shown by Mel Ayer on the Disney Family website.  I have been a Disney fan for years, so I always love seeing crafts and projects that are Disney themed.  These are no exception, I adore the accompanying Hunny flower pot!  You can visit the Disney Family web page here, for instructions on how to complete this project.  This is a great project to bring a little spring to these winter days!
