Bed springs…not just for sleeping!

One thing that I absolutely love is seeing old furniture re-purposed for craft rooms!   I love it when someone is able to take a piece of furniture that might otherwise be thrown away, and give it new life.  It truly amazes me how a little paint, hardware and creativity can produce some exquisite pieces for craft display and storage.  Below are just a few samples that I have seen on Pinterest.  The last picture is where some creative genius re-purposed an old bed spring as a delightful area to store craft goodies!

Clean and simple

Sometimes, when creating cards, less is more.  The card below was created using Stampin’ Up! products, by Erica B. Cerwin, of Pink Buckaroo Designs.  Erica used the Heart Happiness Photopolymer Stamp Set and the Heartfelt Blooms Wood-Mount Stamp Set to create this sweet card.  I love the clean and simple design of this card, which also equates to easy and quick! This would be a great Valentines Day card, but you could also use it throughout the year, just to let someone know that you are thinking about them.  I always like when stamps can be used for more than one occasion, and these sets definitely meet that criteria!  Be sure and check out Erica’s blog, Pink Buckaroo Designs, to see more of her inspiring creativeness.

DIY candle ideas

Valentines Day is approaching, and here are some cute ideas for using votive candles or tea lights.  You can use these for Valentines Day for a little romantic ambiance, or you can create them with materials that will play well for any season.  Personally, I have done this project previously, stamping on vellum and creating a shade, like the image below with the fall leaves.  It is super easy, cheap, and makes a great gift.  You can also use pretty patterned card stock or paper.  I definitely want to try the project below that uses a votive and lace, I think that is a very nice accent.  The great thing about this project is that you can get the glasses, votive holders, votive candles and tea light candles cheaply at Dollar Tree, Walmart, or other discount stores.  Most of us crafters have plenty of paper and card stock laying around, and even have bits of lace or material to use for the votive project.  The links for more details on how to create these projects are below.  Remember, these don’t have to be used just for romance, they can be used all season long…..with or without romance!

It’s snow o’clock somewhere….

We may not have snow here in Florida (not where I am, anyway!), but we can always bring some snow into our lives with our own creativity, like the card below.  This card  is one that Esther Asbury created for Repeat Impressions “Anything Goes Challenge”, using Repeat Impressions stamps.  Another one of my fave stamp companies, Repeat Impressions offer a wide variety of images and themes, that are hand drawn and created from high quality red rubber.  This company is near and dear to my heart specifically because I have known the wonderful owners, Bill and Wendy, for many years.

What I absolutely love about this card is Esther’s use of acetate.  I think it is a medium that is often overlooked, but it creates such a gorgeous effect.   Esther used the Penguin Trio, Lg Pine Tree and Snowflakes to create this adorable card.  Make sure that you check out Repeat Impressions blog, as they issue a new challenge weekly, in which you can actually win a gift certificate!  Also, make sure you take a peek at Esther’s blog, Shoregirl’s Creations, to see some more of her stunning creations!

Start ’em young

For those of you with wee ones Valentines Day is always a fun time to go to the store and pick out Valentines cards for classmates and friends.  Right?  Well, it is, but the selection is usually always the same….Disney Princess, Paw Patrol, Doc McStuffins, Transformers, etc.  This year, switch it up by letting your wee one be the artist and make their own!  Taylored Expressions is offering two different Valentines card craft kits (Fruity Friends and Love Monsters) where your little can be the artist of their own cards that they hand out!  These kits include supplies to complete 24 pre-stamped cards.  Envelopes can be purchased separate, if you so desire, or the cards can be given sans envelope, as the kit comes with a to/from stamp and ink cube for the back of the card!  What better way to instill creativity in your child by purchasing one of these great sets.   Check out the Taylored Expressions website to order yours today!  Get that creativity spark going in your wee one early on!

Were you raised in a barn? Well….

One of the accent decor pieces that you see all over Pinterest these days is the sliding barn door as an interior door for your home.  The one pictured below is an example, and came from La Mode Design’s blog.

Pretty cool idea……and, in my opinion, it goes nicely with a lot of different decor themes.  Leave it to a stamp company like Stampin’ Up!, to translate this decor idea into a stamp and die set that is also an interactive slider card!  The minute I saw the cards that were created using this stamp set on Pinterest, I was in love. Check out the samples below.

I think there are so many awesome things that you can do with this stamp set.  It is just one of those sets that you can use for any season, and make special for any and every occasion.  You can order the Barn Door set (stamps AND dies!) direct from the Stampin’ Up! website, or you can order from your Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, if you have one.  You should definitely check out the blogs of the Stampin’ Up! demonstrators that I have listed above for inspiration, and also to check out their gorgeous creations. Who knows, one of them may be waiting to be your new Stampin’ Up! demonstrator!

Loving your stamps at first ink

Have you ever purchased an amazing stamp, that you had great plans for, only to have the image come out splotchy or incomplete?  To be honest, up until last year when I took a background card class, I thought I was broken, and had some curse that made me stamp incomplete images.  Oh the joy to discover that all I needed to do was condition my stamps!  It was a tip quickly passed on in the class, but one that I took to heart and that has changed the way I look at my new stamps!  Jennifer McGuire, of Jennifer McGuire Ink, shares a great tip here for using VersaMark Ink to condition your stamps.  There are also a variety of other techniques that you can use to condition your stamps.  Click here for some alternatives to stamp conditioning provided by by Memory Book Architects.  These include items such as using Staz-On cleaner, or even a sanding block!  You purchased that stamp because you loved the image….keep that love going by conditioning the stamp first to get the most out of it.  Always give your stamps some love!
