“Wood” u b my Valentine?

Wood decor is all the rage right now, especially hand crafted….whether it is crafted by yourself or someone else.  Below are some super sweet wooden rustic signs that are easy to recreate, and can be used for Valentines Day decor, or all year round.  Click on the Crafts On Fire website, to see some more Love themed rustic wooden signs.  Some of these would also make great gifts for weddings, anniversaries, or even birthdays.  So go find some of that old wood that you were planning on trashing and turn it into a work of “heart”!

Bed springs…not just for sleeping!

One thing that I absolutely love is seeing old furniture re-purposed for craft rooms!   I love it when someone is able to take a piece of furniture that might otherwise be thrown away, and give it new life.  It truly amazes me how a little paint, hardware and creativity can produce some exquisite pieces for craft display and storage.  Below are just a few samples that I have seen on Pinterest.  The last picture is where some creative genius re-purposed an old bed spring as a delightful area to store craft goodies!

DIY candle ideas

Valentines Day is approaching, and here are some cute ideas for using votive candles or tea lights.  You can use these for Valentines Day for a little romantic ambiance, or you can create them with materials that will play well for any season.  Personally, I have done this project previously, stamping on vellum and creating a shade, like the image below with the fall leaves.  It is super easy, cheap, and makes a great gift.  You can also use pretty patterned card stock or paper.  I definitely want to try the project below that uses a votive and lace, I think that is a very nice accent.  The great thing about this project is that you can get the glasses, votive holders, votive candles and tea light candles cheaply at Dollar Tree, Walmart, or other discount stores.  Most of us crafters have plenty of paper and card stock laying around, and even have bits of lace or material to use for the votive project.  The links for more details on how to create these projects are below.  Remember, these don’t have to be used just for romance, they can be used all season long…..with or without romance!

Re-purposing old books

As I have mentioned before, I love books.  Old, new…..reading them, decorating with them….it doesn’t matter.  I love having books around.  Below is another way to decorate with and re-purpose old books.  Turn them into a wall organizer or storage for mail or other papers that you want to keep handy.  Click here for the tutorial by Morena Hockley for this simple and easy project.  Don’t throw out those old Encyclopedia Britannica just because you Google everything! Re-purpose them!

Versatile Vintageness

While I love to decorate for the holidays, I also like things that can be re-purposed.  Vintage tiered serving stands are one of those pieces that can be used for any (or every!) holiday or season.  Take a tiered serving or plant stand, add some ephemera or tchotchkes, and voila! Instant and easy centerpiece or conversational decor.  Below is a Christmas themed tiered stand, along with one that has been created for seemingly every day.  I am also adding a picture that contains several different variations of tiered stands that would work for this idea.  Let your imagination run wild!
