DIY candle ideas

Valentines Day is approaching, and here are some cute ideas for using votive candles or tea lights.  You can use these for Valentines Day for a little romantic ambiance, or you can create them with materials that will play well for any season.  Personally, I have done this project previously, stamping on vellum and creating a shade, like the image below with the fall leaves.  It is super easy, cheap, and makes a great gift.  You can also use pretty patterned card stock or paper.  I definitely want to try the project below that uses a votive and lace, I think that is a very nice accent.  The great thing about this project is that you can get the glasses, votive holders, votive candles and tea light candles cheaply at Dollar Tree, Walmart, or other discount stores.  Most of us crafters have plenty of paper and card stock laying around, and even have bits of lace or material to use for the votive project.  The links for more details on how to create these projects are below.  Remember, these don’t have to be used just for romance, they can be used all season long…..with or without romance!

Winnie the Pooh…and hunny, too!

I heart Disney……and have always loved Winnie the Pooh…call me a kid at heart.  Check out these adorable flower pots shown by Mel Ayer on the Disney Family website.  I have been a Disney fan for years, so I always love seeing crafts and projects that are Disney themed.  These are no exception, I adore the accompanying Hunny flower pot!  You can visit the Disney Family web page here, for instructions on how to complete this project.  This is a great project to bring a little spring to these winter days!

It’s Five O’Clock (and sunny!) Somewhere

One of the best things about rubber stamping and paper crafting is its versatility.  With different mediums, you can use your rubber stamps to create a wide variety of different works of art.  One such example is pictured below, which is an adorable clock made by Angji, using Riley and Co. stamps.  Riley and Co. stamps feature Riley the Moose, in a multitude of different careers and activities.  This stamp company also offers cute and witty quotes and sayings.  Angji did such an incredible job on this project, she even made the clock base from scratch! Check out Angji’s blog, Studio Red Art, to see exactly how she made this clock, celebrating that age old adage It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere!

Framed!

I love picture frames, especially ones that have character.  I always enjoy looking for frames at thrift stores or rummage sales, as I can usually find some pretty cool pieces at great prices.  Here’s the catch….I don’t always like to put pictures in my frames.  Not that I don’t have enough photos….I could scrap from now to the end of my days and never scrap all my photos! The reason that I like to leave the frames empty is because sometimes I just like the character and beauty of the frame itself.  Below are some examples of framed collage galleries.  As you can see, you can mix and match to your style.  Fill all the frames with photos, or just a few, or leave all the frames empty.  The possibilities are endless, and produce a cool effect, as well as a beautiful statement effect.  The photo below that is of the mirror collage gallery was a gallery created by Diane, and shared on her blog, In My Own Style. The photo containing the winter scene collage actually came from Linda, of Itsy Bits and Pieces, when she visited a local Holiday Ideas House (Bachman’s Historic Family Home), near Minneapolis.  Check out these blogs, Itsy Bits and PiecesIn My Own Style, and Icono Interiorismo for more ideas on creating a framed collage gallery.  Let your creativity free with this easy decor project!

A Wreath For Any Season

Beautiful wreath that can be designed for any season……

I am not generally a wreath person, especially if it comes to making them, as I am always afraid I won’t have the patience for the process.  Today, this wreath not only caught my eye as far as decor, but it also seemed fun to make.  I think what I like most about it is that by simply changing the colors of the burlap, you can make create a wreath for any season.  Michelle Noble shares step by step instructions for this wreath here.
